The 2nd International Conference of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) will be held in Sydney 2013. Hosted by the Deaf Society of NSW, the conference is expected to attract more than 800 delegates. As part of the Conference there will be several key events.
The Conference will commence on October 16, 2013 at the Museam of Contemporary Art on George Street with the Welcome Reception, an exciting opportunity for people to meet and network while taking in the breathtaking views of Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour.
The Wesley Conference Centre will host a number of keynote speakers and up to 800 delegates at the Conference portion of this event. This is an exciting opportunity The Australian Deaf Community as this is the first time the event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Conference Dinner is the last event of the Conference and will be hosted at The Ivy in the Ivy Room, an impressive ballroom to signal the finale of the WFD Conference on October 18, 2013.
International Deaf Festival
The International Deaf Festival will be hosted on October 19, 2013. This is an exciting opportunity for the Deaf Community to meet and celebrate their achievments and diversity in an outdoor festival. The festival will have a number of stalls and entertainment for the whole community to be involved in.
International Deaf Film Festival
The Deaf Community is uniquely accomplished in the area of visual art forms and what better way to showcase their talents in deaf film than through the International Deaf Film Festival. Sydney will host the festival at the Wesley Conference Centre on October 19, 2013.
Centenary Afternoon Tea
This afternoon tea on October 20, 2013, at Centennial Hall (Sydney Town Hall) will celebrate the last 100 years of the Deaf Society of NSW. On precisely October 20, 1913, Sydney Town Hall was the historic location where the meeting was called to establish the Deaf Society. Therefore, with the Sydney Town Hall rich in culture and heritage, this is a most fitting venue to mark this momentus milestone for the Deaf Community.
