NICSS provides accredited Interpreters to professional service providers and government agencies that make an appointment with anyone who uses Sign Language to communicate.
A Sign Language user can be either a Deaf adult or a Deaf child and includes situations where the appointment is with a hearing child/minor and the accompanying parent/guardian is Deaf.
NICSS will always provide a quote for approval before proceeding with a booking.
NICSS service is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and information discussed at the appointment remains between the Professional and their Client.
We book the most appropriately qualified interpreter depending on the nature of the appointment.
It is in the best interest of both the Professional Service Provider and the Deaf Consumer to have an accredited Interpreter present at an appointment for legal and other reasons, including informed consent.
Some examples of the services where you can book a NICSS interpreter are:
*Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sign Language users. All interpreting services for public and private health care appointments are FREE.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support to people with a disability in Australia. NICSS is a registered service provider with the NDIS. If you are Deaf, under 65 and living in a NDIS site, you may be eligible for a NDIS Plan. People with a NDIS Plan may have interpreting services included in their Plan. Visit our NDIS page for further information.
