Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is a communication service. It enables people who are Deaf to communicate with people who are hearing via the internet (for example, using Skype).
If NICSS is unable to book an interpreter to attend a face to face appointment on site, then Video Remote Interpreting may be an option. The Professional or Government Service Provider can book a Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) to help them communicate with their Deaf client.
The booking can take place at the chosen time using a webcam. The interpreter will link to the professional service provider's room via Skype or similar.
VRI is an important service - it's EASY to use and this conferencing application itself is FREE to download. NICSS will provide you with a no obligation quote to provide an interpreter.
The professional service provider will need in their office or meeting room:
NICSS will contact the Professional or Government Service Provider for their Skype address details prior to the appointment date.
NICSS technical staff can advise you of the minimum requirements for a successful Video Remote appointment. Email NICSS staff or see other ways you can contact us to request further information.
Visit the Skype website and select the software that is compatible with the computer or equivalent you use. Make sure you have the most recent version of Skype.
